If you have a web design business, you should try to use updated HTML code. Using the outdated FONT tag is one example of old coding that should be removed from your work.
Font tags indicate an outdated website. Your client is paying you to build a website assuming you will be using the most current code and technology. Using FONT tags indicates that you have not mastered the use of style sheets or are just using old technology because of old habits.
Regardless of why you may still be using FONT tags, doing so will not serve your clients well. As a web design business person, it is in your best interest as well as your clients’ to keep up with recent code changes. It is not hard to get used to using style sheets. And when you master the use of CSS, you will never need to go back to the old outdated FONT tags.
If you still use FONT tags instead of using styles, you might question why you should change to CSS just because it is newer. There are other benefits to moving up to style sheets. For example, changing the appearance of a website that uses FONT tags instead of styles can take a substantial amount of time.
For instance, if your customer wants their font to be a brown color instead of black, by using cascading styles, you just change a couple of styles and it cascades throughout the entire website. On the other hand, if the website has FONT tags embedded throughout it, you will need to go through each FONT tag to adjust it. Of course when your customer then decides that the brown color should be a bit darker, you will need to go back through all those FONT tags again!
You should make sure your client knows that you are using cutting edge technology to make simple changes like font styles. It should not become a daunting task of changing individual tags. Since you are a web design professional, you probably don’t have a desire to sit and do mind-numbing FONT changes to make your living. You can master cascading style sheets and gain control of modifications so you can get paid well for your expertise.
