Nowadays it is easier than ever to relive the enchantment of those bygone days. All over the country, people from all walks of life are getting very involved in RC cars. People young and old are joining RC car clubs; they enjoy tournaments, shows and much more. Several cities have seen the enthusiasm and gotten on board, sponsoring these zippy little cars. People are creating tracks in their back yards to practice.
Getting started is easier than many people realize. To get started, check your city for a hobby shop or store that may specialize in remote control cars. They will be able to let you know about clubs that may be in your area. Venture to the shop and see what they have to offer.
For beginners venturing in, some hobbyists recommend that you start off with a used car. This is to help you get a feel for driving, save you some money and possibly give you a project to work on. What do we mean by project. Well, just like with a used car that you buy that you want to fix up, you have that opportunity with a used remote control car. Fix up the body, fix up the engine, change the tires and much more.
A used car gives you more freedom to learn, you will not have the worry about crashing the car and messing it up. Get your experience in an old beater before moving on to NASCAR, so to speak. After you have played, tinkered and learned with your old RC car you can now begin looking for a new one. You can choose battery operated or gasoline powered, if you are not sure which check with an experienced RC car owner. They can advise you on the pros and cons of each model.
When you find local tracks, get out and visit them as often as possible. Doing this will give you a better understanding of what the RC car world is all about. You may become interested in competitions, national clubs and more. Be warned once you are infected with the RC car bug you will be amazed at all the fun that has been lurking undetected.
If you are, a little overwhelmed about getting started there is plenty of reading material on the subject of RC cars. You will find plenty of sites that sell cars; however, there are also books and magazines as well. Be sure to check with the library as they may have a few of these.
